Our focus is you
Here at the Focus Medical Clinic, we specialise in identifying and treating recurrent infections that are hard to diagnose.
If you’re suffering with a recurrent infection, you know something’s wrong. So why are all the available tests coming back negative?
Unfortunately, the one-size-fits-all approach to screening for recurrent infections doesn’t always work. That’s why we have a particular interest in identifying and treating these troublesome, recurrent infections.
Some of our patients want a second opinion. Some want an alternative to their regular GP service.
Whatever your medical requirement, we will give you the undivided attention you deserve. We will really listen to what you’re telling us. And we will always provide recommendations or treatments that are appropriate for you.
Our ethos and experience
Focus Medical Clinic exists because Dr Anderson identified a significant need.
“I have a successful career in the NHS, but began this clinic so I could examine troublesome and poorly understood problems like recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in greater detail”.
Using specialised testing facilities, we can look for the cause and tailor a treatment plan to help you. We understand the impact that these conditions can have on your daily life.
“Giving people their quality of life back is incredibly rewarding. That’s why we’re here.”

We understand
Some conditions can be hard to diagnose, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Nor does it stop us from treating them.
We listen
You deserve to be heard. By discussing your concerns fully, and with access to more thorough testing, we aim to get to the core of your problem.
We treat
People are unique, that’s why we believe their treatment plan should be too. Our treatments will help you get back the quality of life you deserve.
Working with the NHS
We will happily work with your NHS GP to reach a diagnosis and devise the right treatment plan for you. By coming to see us you are not ‘opting out’ of the NHS; a private GP service sits happily alongside services provided by the NHS.
We can make recommendations and talk to your NHS GP. We can provide private prescriptions and/or private referrals, and will advise you appropriately.
If, however, you wish to consult us independently, that’s also fine.
No need for referrals
You can book a GP Consultation (and any of our other services) without a referral from your own doctor. There are various reasons why people use a private GP: You may be looking for:
- a second opinion or different perspective.
- a longer consultation; we offer consultations from 15 minutes up to 1 hour.
- more detailed testing than is normally available, such as more detailed cultures or molecular testing for recurrent infections.
- services such as breast examinations and Pap smear tests that you may not be able to access on the NHS.
- treatment if you’re not eligible for NHS services
Changing lives
Part of the focus family
The original part of the focus family, Focus Medical Clinic was founded by Dr. Catriona Anderson after she identified the need for a specialised diagnostic and treatment service for recurrent UTIs. The clinic shares the testing facilities of Focus Laboratories, as well as providing a private GP service.
Focus Laboratories provides specialised UTI testing services beyond the patients of our private clinic. Our test results are always accompanied by tailored treatment plans which you can take to your NHS GP. By offering these self test kits, we hope to reach more people suffering from recurrent UTIs so they can get their quality of life back.
